Why does wilderness matter to you?
The majesty, uniqueness and wonder we find in wilderness is incredible—blasting open our senses and souls. I have learned about a world I wouldn't know or understand if not for wonderful, brave souls who have stood up to protect our natural lands containing amazing shapes, colors, and habitats, awakening us to glory all around us and giving us a chance to reflect back to the beginning of time when nature ruled.
Why does wilderness matter to your community?
It gives both young and older people alike a deeper perspective (and relief from everyday "people" life) along with opportunities to feel a part of something bigger than ourselves and discover what life is truly about. From the majestic sky full of stars, to experiencing wilderness with all of her natural sounds, rock and soil textures, kinds and colors of water and unique creatures... This is a here-on-Earth magic we need to cherish as she cannot be brought back once erased.
Share a story about a special experience you have had in wilderness.
I always wanted to experience Bryce National Park. I'd seen pictures for years and doubted the in-person experience could be so breath-taking. Wow! Was I so happy to be wrong! The landscape was wondrous and I instantly felt at home. Certainly one of my very top life experiences which sticks with me to this day.
What are your hopes for the future of wilderness?
Saving more and more places and spaces we can admire, care for, and explore. Expanding protected spaces instead of reducing them; especially those natural places which are difficult for humans to come into as these spaces have their own way of being. Their very presence inspires awe and wonder and helps us keep our Earth's ecosystem intact.
